Trekking Rinjani Start Sembalun
The climb from the Rinjani Trek Center in Sembalun to the Summit campsite (Plawangan II) at 2,639 meters is quite an adventure! Starting at an altitude of 1,150 meters, the trek takes about 6-7 hours and passes through several points: POSI (1,300 m), POSII (1,500 m), and POSIII (1,800 m). The initial part of the trek is relatively easy, with gentle ups and downs through savannah grassland, offering beautiful scenery and a refreshing breeze.
However, the real challenge begins after POSIII, where the gradient can reach up to 50 degrees. This section can be tough, especially for young children, due to the steep and far apart steps. It’s important to stay hydrated to prevent altitude sickness, even if the cooler weather makes you feel less thirsty.
Arrive at Plawangan Sembalun or the summit campsite; stay overnight in a tent. The final push to the summit starts at 3 AM, covering nearly 1,100 meters on difficult terrain.
After descending from the peak for the 2 days, 1 night program will return to Sembalun, while for the programs 3 days, 2 nights or more will continue the journey down to Segara Anak Lake (2000 m) and spend the night in a tent. On the third day, continue down to Senaru or Torean village.
